We females are beauty conscious and we make our best appearance with proper makeup wherever we go. Right from the lotion and foundation to wearing a perfume, we ensure that we carry everything perfectly. But did we anytime wondered that these cosmetics can make you infertile? Often, wives apply makeup to impress their husbands but nowadays the same thing is a major cause of concern among female infertility. An average woman uses 12 personal care products that contain a high volume of disrupting chemicals. A research on them proved that the regular personal care products contain almost 168 chemicals that are potent enough to destroy the women’s hormones and reproductive system.
There are several personal care products which are used by both men and women and can destroy the endocrine system leading to miscarriages and infertility.
Soaps, shampoos, and conditioners.
Parabens are a type of preservative used to prevent the growth of bacteria in soaps, shampoos, and conditioners. These parabens when exceeds the required quantity can produce an adverse effect on fertility. Similarly, antibacterial soap contains triclosan that reduces the chances of conceiving. When hormones get imbalanced, one may not be able to develop healthy sperm or healthy eggs.
Nail polishes and nail polish removers.
Nail polishes contain harmful chemicals like phthalates, formaldehyde, and many volatile organic compounds. On the other hand, toxic chemicals like methyl methacrylate, acetone, and ethyl acetate are commonly found in nail polish removers. These chemicals mixers can destroy fertility and can cause birth defects.
Cosmetics like foundation, lotion, blushers, etc. contain phthalates and toluene that damages reproductive organs by disrupting hormone levels. They are so chronic that these toxins form in the breast milk to inject little babies.
When a woman gets exposed to these chemicals, she will be at a higher risk of miscarriage as well as the life of the baby will be at stake. The adverse effects of these chemicals include higher chances of miscarriage, preterm birth, kidney damages, behavioural issues, reduces learning capability and issues related to brain and nervous system. Overall, the baby might suffer from physical or mental defects or both.
In a different research performed by the Herb Research Foundation, it was observed that around 60% of the chemicals present in our personal care products are absorbed into the bloodstream.
Dr. Trevor Cates, Neuropathic, warns us against the harmful content of chemicals in soaps, body washes, shampoos, lotions, cosmetics, etc and advised us to read the contents’ list before buying such products.
It is our individual responsibility to give a thought about the safety measures before using any of these products.
